Status Update:
Progress On Your New Y

Here are the latest updates on your Y's construction.

  • We are anxious to open our doors, but the second wave of COVID-19 has unfortunately caused further delays. Therefore, your centre will now open after March 2021. We know that this is disappointing news. We want you to enjoy the many benefits of having a Y in your community and we are working hard to make this a reality for you. At this time, it is not clear by how much the second wave will delay your centre opening, but we will continue to provide you with the latest information and updates as the situation develops.
  • Keep an eye out as you pass by the Y—we removed most of the hoarding so you’ll have a clear view of the inside.
  • Our gym floors have arrived and we’re giving them a few weeks to acclimatize before we install them.
  • While the majority of our construction materials are locally sourced, we had to look globally for help installing our hydraulic (movable) pool floor. The company that will assist us hails from Germany and they’ll come to install the floor as soon as it’s safe to travel.
  • Wood slatted ceilings are now going up in the main entrance and they are looking beautiful.
  • Testing of the pool tanks, the most time-consuming project, is now complete! Tile work is nearly finished, so you’ll see stripes on the pool floors.
  • Precautions to keep workers safe include a screening process before workers enter the site, additional hand wash and hand sanitizer stations, and the addition of a full time cleaner to wipe down all touch points throughout the day.

When will the Steve & Sally Stavro Family YMCA be open?

"When will you be open?" It's the #1 question on everyone's mind. We would love to give you an exact date, but it depends on so many factors — especially the construction. We're moving along nicely (the locker room walls just went up), but it's too early to nail down an exact date (see what we did there?). So, stay tuned; we'll let you know as soon as we do!
